The Indian real estate industry, which contributes 6% to the national GDP and now ranks as the nation’s second-largest employer as it enters a new era of economic growth. However, men have always held a disproportionate amount of power in Indian real estate, with women having a very small influence. In the past, people had no say or voice, even while making decisions about buying property.
Current Scenario
The current era is evolving. Women are today not only working in the real estate industry, but they are also a key factor in its expansion. From prominent multinational real estate development corporations to property consultants, channel partners, and brokers, women are pushing the Indian real estate sector to new heights. The real estate industry has seen rapid growth as a result of more active female participation.
Women in the real estate: An advantage
They are taking the lead in planning and building the property because they are builders. They are demonstrating their ability to make significant decisions as purchasers, and as brokers, they are giving prospective buyers of real estate critical assistance and advice. According to statistics, women who work in real estate provide a breadth of information and the self-assurance to relate to the end user. Compared to their male counterparts, they are seen as being more tolerant, approachable, and empathic. Women workers typically encourage more credibility and trust for their companies.
Support from the Government
Industry groups like the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) have worked hard to advance inclusivity and gender diversity in the industry. This is evident in the fundamental modifications made to the regulatory framework put in place by RERA, which have led to more openness in the real estate industry. A more professional environment has also been created by changes to the GST and other government laws, which has increased the participation of women in the sector.
The Road ahead
Due to their constant determination, concentrated hard work, and refined talent, female employees with expertise and ambition in real estate have advanced in ranks based on their merit and quality. In order to reward female employees for their achievements, businesses are now allowing them to plan and take pre-planned sabbaticals.
Undoubtedly, the real estate industry will need more women in the future, and women will assume more leadership positions.
